Ah, the power of the group.  Here is one of my favorite quotes – “if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go in a group”, this sums up our training methods, go in a group.

We all know people or perhaps you are one of those people who have tried to start a running or walking program on our own.  You have the best intentions, you look up a training program, download on your phone or print it out and put it on the refrigerator and have EVERY intention of following it to the finish and know that you will be faster than everyone at the end of the race…But, in reality after a couple of days you taper off,  you have all sorts of excuses like – it is cold or hot or rainy or sunny or I am to tired or busy or sore or feel sick, there is no end to the excuses you can come up with to not workout on your own.  This is why a group is the way to go

A group run or walk provides

  • the motivation to show up for the workout
  • and the motivation to KEEP showing up.

In our training groups you are placed with people who are going the same pace as you, we don’t want you to feel like you are always behind or in the front of the group.  Everyone may have joined the program for different reasons but you are all out there working towards a goal.

The group, which starts out at strangers, ends up as friends.  The group is what brings you together and keeps you going. Even when you don’t want to show up, you know that they are there, waiting.  You may tell yourself that you will work out later on your own, but it is always easier to get your workout done with your group.  You also have your group leaders who bring lots of experience, they can help you with your questions about clothing, eating, workouts, losing your toenails… etc.  They encourage and support you, they make if FUN!

The group provides an expectation, that you will show up, that you will take part, that you will have fun.  Actually, if you don’t show up you know that they will talk about you, of course they will talk about you if you do show up but then you are there to defend yourself!

If you want to go fast – go alone, but it is so much more fun and you are much more successful if you go in a group.
